Real Estate Board Announces 2012‐2013 President and Directors

Kelowna, BC ‐ The Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB) is pleased to announce the election of REALTOR® Rob Shaw of Vernon to the position of President for the 2012‐2013 term. He was installed along with 11 Directors representing the Central Okanagan, North Okanagan and Shuswap zones at OMREB’s Annual General Meeting on March 8, 2012.

Shaw replaces outgoing President George Cwiklewski of Kelowna who stays on as Past President. Rob has been an active REALTOR® and member of OMREB since 1995, and has been a Director for seven years – serving from 2003 through 2009, and returning in 2011. During this time, Rob has held various portfolios including MLS® and Technology, Education, Communication, and Provincial Governmental Affairs, and served as Zone media contact. This past year, he served on the Executive and Finance committees.

“This is a challenging and exciting time to become President,” Shaw notes. “I am very proud to represent the professional REALTORS® of the Central and North Okanagan, Shuswap and Revelstoke, and of the Board’s role in furthering professionalism through continuing education. I fully support the many initiatives undertaken by our members to help attain a higher quality of life in our communities.”

Prior to his Board experience, Shaw served on OMREB’s North Okanagan Zone Executive Committee from 1998 to 2003 with three of those years as the Chairperson. A Vernon resident since 1993 and a REALTOR® for 17 years, he has worked with Royal LePage Downtown Vernon and its predecessors since 1995. Rob was instrumental in organizing the annual Vernon REALTORS® food drive for the Salvation Army Food Bank for eight consecutive years (now in its 35th year). Recognized for his longterm commitment to giving back to the community, Rob was the recipient of OMREB's REALTORS® Care Award for the North Okanagan in 2010.

“As President, I look forward to continuing to raise the profile of our Board locally and within the province while working with governments and other stakeholders to enhance housing opportunities for families in the Board area. I am hopeful that relatively low mortgage rates and moderate home prices will continue to allow more first‐time buyers to enter the market this year, and will encourage investors to develop more rental opportunities for those who are not in a position to buy,” notes Rob.

“As consumer confidence strengthens, the economy improves and employment grows, and the market continues to stabilize in the Okanagan‐Shuswap, more buyers and sellers will be able to reach their housing goals in 2012.”

Karen Singbeil of RE/Max at Mara Lake in Sicamous was officially installed as the Vice President of the Board of Directors. An OMREB Member for eight years (2004), Karen has served as a Director since 2009 – holding the Membership and Professional Standards portfolios since 2010, acting as Zone media contact for two years (2010 and 2011), and is currently sitting on the Finance Committee (2011 to present). Karen is an Associate Broker and has been a REALTOR® for 16 years (1996). She has lived in the Shuswap since 2004.
